The Classless Transferee's Skill Copy - Chapter 70
Chapter 70: Rendvell Games, Block C (Part One)
The other participants and I were transported to the field…
Being transported was an incredibly novel experience for me.
By the way, the participants of block C were already in the middle of being introduced.
“Up next is this man! A man of mystery… whose identity is known by nobody! Lars of the Purple Robe!”
I’d probably have to fight Lars-san in this block stage.
I’d better be careful…
“And, there’s someone here whose name has traveled far and wide that’s going to be participating!”
…Hm? Such a guy’s here?
“Appearing just like a flash and decimating countless strong opponents, this is someone who Emperor Meld of the city of Gheil has commissioned, and though the knights have tried to scout him, he refused the offer!”
Huh, so Meld-sama and the knights have commissioned this guy before.
Seems like a pretty strong guy.
“To think that such power would be in the hands of someone without a class! Everyone’s attention is on him at this tournament!”
There’s someone else without a class other than me here?!
“The guild leader of the convenience guild Possible Star, the classless adventurer… Asou Aruto!”
The guild leader of Possible Star… hey…
Isn’t that me?!
Eh, what?! Have I become that famous?!
They spent way too long introducing me!
It’d be okay if they cut halfway, but the whole “classless” spiel ruined it!
N-no… I can’t get deluded here!
Concentrate, man, concentrate!
Exhaling deeply, I pulled myself together…
Seeing me from the bleachers, Meryl and the rest raised their voices.
“Ah, everyone! Aruto-san’s made his entrance!”
“No, it’s less nervousness and more confusion at that announcer’s introduction.”
“The commentator saying that much must be embarrassing for him….”
Ah, speaking of which, the monitors were broadcasting me.
Crap, this is embarrassing…
Looking at me, Magius sympathized with me, and Kylie grinned as if to make fun of me.
“There’s no way he’ll win like that.”
Meryl humphed at Anatos speaking as though she was making a fool out of me.
“What?! Aruto-san won’t lose! He’ll turn impossibilities into possibilities!”
“Just as there are things in this world you can make possible, so are there things you can’t.”
“That’s true,” Meryl admitted unintentionally.
But then, she shut her eyes and shook her head.
“That’s true. But some things don’t follow the rules of logic. It doesn’t matter what Aruto-san can do or can’t do! If he’s in a pinch, we’ll support him.”
Magius, Eim, and Lulu nodded at what Meryl said.
Kylie smiled, agreeing with them.
Anatos saw them smiling and stopped talking.
But she came back to her senses, humphed at them, and turned away, looking at the monitor.
Meryl and the others looked towards the monitor too…
After the participants were introduced, the countdown to the showdown’s start started.
I once again pulled myself together and held Enzetta, which was on my back.
And then… the countdown hit zero.
At the same time, I drew Enzetta and watched my surroundings warily.
The announcer’s voice was nowhere to be heard, and I was surrounded by silence.
I gripped Enzetta tightly, anticipating an enemy to come at any moment.
Don’t I have that?
Using the special skill Detect Enemy, I scanned my surroundings for threats.
Information about my surroundings popped into my head.
Right now, information about the area around thirty meters around me was being transmitted into my head.
It was much like a radar.
There was a central yellow point that represented me…
And red points that represented enemies.
Wait, those two red points getting closer are…
Enemies are coming!
Just as I made that conclusion, two enemies jumped out from the brush.
I see, so they tried to surprise me!
But thanks to Detect Enemy, I already knew they were there. So I immediately pulled out Bulleter and turned around quickly.
Surprised that their sneak attack didn’t work, they jumped towards me.
But they were too slow…!
I shot the two of them with Bulleter. Both shots were headshots.
“H-how were we… found out…?”
While they were confused, their stamina dropped to zero due to the headshots, and the two disappeared.
…This was pretty good!
If I used Detect Enemy, I could even deal with sneak attacks!
As I was thinking of this, another red point drew closer to me…
The red point overlapped with mine…. But I couldn’t see any enemies in my field of vision.
They were in the sky, I thought. Alternatively…
“So they’re underground!”
Just as I thought, I jumped, and at the same time, someone with a mallet came up from underground.
But because I was able to predict the attack, I kicked their face in, and plunged Enzetta into their body.
Without as much as a scream, they vanished.
“Let’s keep going!”
Gripping Enzetta and Bulleter, I ran off in search of opponents…
Glenn and the rest were watching me in the waiting room.
“Aruto’s been on a roll since the start!”
“He’s gradually defeating more and more enemies. Unexpectedly, I might not be able to win as easily as I thought.”
Glenn and Snow admired my performance.
But Yuugure walked up to them and spoke.
“Heh, are your eyes full of holes or something?”
Muttering this, he turned his gaze to a nearby monitor.
Following him, Glenn and the rest looked at that monitor and were astonished.
The monitor displayed Lars, defeating enemies with what could be called an unparalleled display of power.
Wielding a greatsword as his weapon, he destroyed the participants around him.
“This guy’s pretty good, too!”
“But Aruto won’t lose…”
They looked back at the monitor displaying me and gave me a heartfelt cheer.
I exhaled warily, having defeated the enemies around me.
That makes 64, more or less…
I didn’t know the exact number of participants I’d eliminated, but it was coming along okay.
“Ten minutes left, huh… Gotta double down.”
“Then let’s make this the last one.”
Hearing a voice suddenly, I quickly turned around.
There stood Lars-san, wielding a greatsword.
Did he slip by Detect Enemy’s radar…?!
This guy… when did he get behind me…?
“I don’t mind if you rely on Detect Enemy, but using it as a crutch is no good.”
Could it be…?!
“Do you have the special skill Detection Evasion?!”
When I blurted out my thoughts, Lars clapped in agreement.
I see, so that’s why he wasn’t picked up on the radar!
“Now then, we have no time for idle talk. I’ll give you an advantage, but I’ll still defeat you here.”
“Either way, I won’t be able to win further if I can’t beat you here… so you’re going down!”
“Great mindset… let’s go!”
Just as he said that, Lars immediately closed the distance between us.
However, I could still keep up with him, and went into a defensive stance to protect against an attack from his greatsword.
I defended, but…
The attack was so powerful that it sent me flying back.
Somehow, I managed to drag myself across the ground, stabilizing my body as it flew back.
“No time to rest!”
Even one blocked hit had that much power…
And he sent out several of them.
Somehow, I continued blocking with Enzetta and resisted being blown back.
If there were a phrase for this situation, it would definitely be “defensive strategy”…
If I don’t do something soon, my guard will break!
After a series of slashes, Lars-san tried to sweep his greatsword to the side quickly, but I read his intentions and jumped to avoid the slash.
Then, leaping straight up, I kneed him in the gut and slashed at him with Enzetta.
He was knocked back a bit, but held his ground by plunging his greatsword into the ground.
I wouldn’t give him any time to rest!
I immediately took out Bulleter and fired a number of shots at him.
The bullets that were fired at Lars-san headed straight for him, and they looked like they were going to hit him, but…
However, swinging his greatsword violently, he swallowed up the bullets in one slash and came at me.
Too slow to defend, I took the force of the blow and crumpled on the ground.
I let go of Enzetta and Bulleter, and, staggering, I was going to reach for the two, but…
In that moment, Lars-san had rushed over…
He held his greatsword in an icepick grip, aiming to plunge through me.
“Like hell… it is…!”
He swung his greatsword down to stab me, but I rolled to avoid it.
I then got back up quickly.
As they lay on the ground, I looked at Enzetta and Bulleter on the ground, thinking how best to close the distance to them, but Lars-san came slashing at me with his greatsword.
Unable to block the attacks, I instead evaded the greatsword.
Then, he swung it down, and I caught the blade between my hands.
However, to slash me with all his might, he increased the power of the swing.
I wouldn’t let him do that!
I kicked Lars-san in the stomach, and he was sent back slightly.
Covering both my fists in fire and lightning, I tried hitting him again and again.
However, he blocked with his greatsword and dodged my hits, then, unexpectedly, he got up close to me and hit me with a bullet of light.
The light bullet exploded at point-blank.
Caught in the explosion, I was knocked incredibly far back and crashed into the rocks behind me.
My body was embedded in stone…
Expecting a follow-up attack, I tried to move out of the way, but it was already too late.
Lars-san, who was pointing the tip of his greatsword toward me, was already approaching me.
Unable to move due to the speed of his approach, I was stabbed through by the greatsword.
Pierced by the greatsword, I was unable to move…
Confirming that I was unable to move, Lars-san let out a deep breath.
“That was a bit tricky, but I’ve finally won. Now then, I still have some time left. I’ll use it to search for the res-…?”
He looked around him, and tried to pull out his greatsword.
But he couldn’t, and he took another look at the sword’s tip.
On it was my body, which was supposed to have vanished.
When your stamina dropped to zero, your body vanished… Those were the rules of the tournament.
But my body remained there, slowly freezing…
Along with it, the greatsword froze as well, making it impossible to pull out.
Lars-san’s eyes widened when he saw my body, which had frozen into an ice sculpture.
However, he felt a presence behind him, causing him to be startled.
But he was too slow!
“…That was a clone. One that I made… Hiyah!”
Using Enzetta, I slashed at Lars-san using Fire Slash.
He fell to the ground, burning.
The impact caused the greatsword to be dislodged, and my body, which was now an ice sculpture, broke apart.
Slowly getting up, Lars-san asked me about what just happened.
“Yes. I switched places with one to make an opening, Lars-san…?!”
I don’t know whether or not it was because of the Fire Slash from earlier, but Lars’ purple robe was removed, revealing his true face.
But when I saw who he really was, I was stunned.
Seriously… so Lars-san’s true identity was…!
“Hm? What’s wrong, Aruto-kun?”
“Y-your robe is… off…”
I pointed at him and he checked his robe… or where his robe once was, and upon realizing that it wasn’t there, stopped, slowly raised his head, and looked at me.
“Haha… What a coincidence, meeting you here…!”
“What are you doing, Commander Luke…?”
That’s right, the real identity of the man in purple was the Phoenix Knight Corps’ commander, Luke Volndt…
