The Classless Transferee's Skill Copy - Chapter 46
Chapter 46: The Sealed Shrine
Magius, Eim, and I headed back to the village.
The houses and such didn’t seem to be destroyed…
On top of that, Elle…!?
Hearing Eim’s frenzied voice, Magius and I entered Elle’s house. We saw Meryl’s heavily injured figure lying on the bed.
Eim and I ran over to Meryl, who was heavily injured.
She had lost consciousness.
Magius looked over at the houses but couldn’t find Elle anywhere.
“Oi, Where’s Elle…?!”
“She was… taken away!”
Elle’s mother grieved, tears streaming heavily down her face.
We were too late…!
“Meryl-san… fought the troops of the army and Absolute Demise for Elle’s sake…!”
As I used Heal on her wounded body, her wounds began to recover and she opened her eyes slowly.
“A-Aruto…san…? I…! Elle-san!”
Meryl got up with vigour.
Eim tried to calm her down.
“C-calm down…! Meryl-onee-chan!”
“I can’t calm down! Elle-san is…!”
It seems like Elle’s kidnapping was tough on her…
“…by ‘army,’ do you mean the Tiger Demon Claw army? To think that they and the assassins’ guild were in cahoots… you’ve gotta be kidding me!”
Gritting his teeth, Magius forcefully walked out of the room.
I tried to stop him, but he had already run away.
“Crap! That idiot…!”
To begin with, I had to chase after him!
As I was about to leave the house, Eim stopped me…
I ended up turning around and looking…
And I saw Meryl, crying painfully…
“I couldn’t… protect Elle-san! It hurts… I’m really… useless…”
Meryl shouted, her expression filled with pain.
I understood how frustrating it was for her to be defeated by the enemy, and to have those she wanted to protect taken away right in front of her.
“Aruto-san… the leader of Absolute Demise is the man who commissioned us…”
…so that man really did have another side to him!
It was my fault for not seeing it coming!
“I’m sorry, Meryl. It’s my fault that you’re injured.”
I gripped Meryl’s hand and apologized.
“B-but! For you to apologize…!”
“Nope! It’s gotten to this because he was able to talk me into this. Now it’s time to get even.”
I let go and stroked her head.
“I’ll avenge you too… I’ll never forgive that guy for hurting what’s important to me!”
Having calmed Meryl down, I turned my gaze to Eim.
“Eim, I’ll entrust you with Meryl.”
“Leave it to me.”
I pat Eim on the head, then set out to chase after Magius.
Leaving the house, I checked the location of the shrine with my condition bracelet and went on my way.
As I entered the forest, I was encircled by a large pack of Fanged Wolves.
“Tch…! Out of the way!”
I fired my revolver at them, but their numbers didn’t seem to decrease at all.
If I don’t catch up with Magius…!
Then a shot was fired from behind me, and several Fanged Wolves in front of me fell to the ground.
I turned around to see what had happened and saw a man with white hair and pitch-black eyes.
He looked the same age as me.
The man, continuing to hold his gun, continued to walk towards me.
The Fanged Wolves and I were cautious, but the man grinned and struck up a conversation with me.
“Oi. Leave these dogs to me, and head on over to your shrine or something.”
Shockingly, he offered to fight in my stead.
But I was suspicious.
“How’d you know I was headed to the shrine? Who are you?”
As I questioned him, the man sighed deeply in exasperation.
“Who I am isn’t important… if you don’t hurry on over, you won’t make it back.”
…he was right.
At this rate, both Magius’ and Elle’s lives were in danger…
I don’t have any other choice but to… rely on him…
“…I understand. I don’t know you, but I’ll rely on you.”
Leaving the situation to this man, I ran off.
Confirming that I had disappeared into the forest, the man—Yuugure Kiriya—turned his gaze back to the Fanged Wolves.
As though ready for battle, the Fanged Wolves howled.
“Oh. You’re howling like maniacs… and that’s really annoying to me!”
Black wings appeared on Kiriya’s back as he grinned and shouted, and pure darkness enveloped the Fanged Wolves. When the darkness disappeared, the Fanged Wolves were nowhere to be seen.
“Tch… as I thought, these dogs won’t sate my hunger…”
Snickering, Kiriya looked in the direction I ran off.
“Well then… time to get back to that nagging goddess or else I’ll get lectured.”
And with that, Kiriya left the area…
Magius made it to the shrine alone.
He saw Elle, unconscious in front of the shrine, bound on a cross.
To help her, Magius started to run towards her, but Charles and his army of soldiers appeared to block him.
“You bastards… Elle and Meryl were…!”
Magius glared at Charles, the culprit behind all this.
Putting on iron gauntlets, he clenched his fists.
“Oh, remnant of the oni clan. How convenient it is that you’ve come here. Now we can finally get you out of the way! Go, you lot!”
At Charles’ orders, the soldiers all attacked Magius at once.
“I don’t have the time to deal with you bastards!”
Shouting this, he covered his fists in red lightning, creating an electric blast that knocked the soldiers back.
Even then, the soldiers behind him attacked him, but Magius cleaved through them.
Seeing all the soldiers blown away, Charles sighed.
“As it were, these ‘soldiers’ were all just small fry. I have no choice.”
Swallowing the Monster Drug he had in his pocket, he transformed into a Lizard Fighter.
“I’ll show you real fists!”
Stepping forward vigorously, approaching Magius, he threw a powerful punch.
Unable to evade, Magius somehow caught and stopped the attack.
However, he was caught by a right hook to the cheek, then kicked in the face.
Magius was knocked back lightly and rolled on the ground, stepping back to get away from the Lizard Fighter.
“That’s all you’ve got? How about your red lightning?”
“Don’t get too cocky! Electrosmash!”
Magius shot a bullet of red lightning, and the Lizard commander responded in kind by shooting a bullet of light. Both of them collided, exploding, and causing smoke to rise up.
As the smoke blocked Magius’ view, the Lizard Fighter jumped out of the smoke and gave him a flying kick, sending him flying back.
Hitting the ground, Magius glared at the Lizard Fighter.
“You will die while believed to have attacked a village!”
Jumping up, the Lizard Fighter tried to land a crushing blow on Magius…
In response, Magius stood his ground, but someone appeared between them and knocked the Lizard Fighter back.
Looking at the Lizard Fighter knocked into the ground, Magius turned to look at who was responsible.
“Seems like I made it…”
Right, it was… me, Asou Aruto!
“Sorry to keep you waiting! Let me assist you!”
Running in, I glared at the Lizard Fighter…
*T/N: This originally said アイムお姉ちゃん！ (Eim-onee-chan!), though I assume this is a mistake on the author’s part since Meryl doesn’t refer to Eim this way, and Elle is not present here, so it can’t be her saying this. I have replaced it with a more contextually appropriate version, but just so you know.
