I will parry everything to become the greatest adventurer! - Chapter 17
Chapter 17: Goblin Emperor
I looked up at the monster that had just appeared in front of us.
I was so surprised that I could barely speak.
This was a Goblin Emperor.
It was a subspecies of the strongest goblin variant, the A-Class Goblin King.
Goblin emperors, unlike goblin kings, do not occur naturally. Rather, they are artificially created from the manipulation of the body of a goblin.
Such procedures were almost commonplace before, but they had since been banned by international law.
The gem embedded into the goblin king’s forehead was supplying the monster with immense magical energy.
In most cases, when one supplies a creature with more magical energy than it could handle, its body would simply explode.
However, certain goblins can adapt to such excessive magic due to a rare mutation in their genome.
If one continues to pour magical energy into these special goblins, they will inflate like a balloon, reaching enormous sizes.
After a certain amount of energy has been allocated to such a goblin, they would have eventually obtained the same physique and power as a goblin king, in which case they are simply called goblin emperors.
Depending on the amount of magic used and the quality of the magical gem used, one could find varying results.
But still, this goblin emperor’s size was something to be marveled.
One would easily be able to tell that the magical gem on its forehead definitely wasn’t ordinary.
It had ridiculous size….
And exceptional purity…
The oldest gem known to man was called the “Devil’s Heart,” and it was kept in Mithra.
I was lucky enough to see it while studying in the area.
This gem right now… it may even rival the Devil’s Heart.
This goblin was so strong that no goblin king would be able to compare to it.
It is said that the goblin kings are an A-class monster capable of defeating an entire party of gold grade adventurers.
However, this particular goblin was way too large.
The level of danger this monster posed would likely be impossible for anybody to measure.
Why was this thing here? Who sent it?
We were definitely no match for it.
What’s more, it had a concealment spell placed on it.
This encounter had to be entirely deliberate.
No wonder we haven’t seen any other creatures the entire day; they were all probably eaten by this monster.
Perhaps other adventurers have already fallen victim to this thing.
What if sensei had sensed this thing and intentionally brought us here?
Yes… That is a possibility.
He kept mentioning how excited he was to hunt goblins…
It’s strange someone of his caliber would say such a thing.
At the time, I just went along with it.
Does he always do this sort of thing? Put himself at risk to help other people?
I’m ashamed of my fear.
Back at the guild, sensei looked at me with a worried expression.
He probably knew something like this was going to happen.
A deep fear was ignited within me—the same fear I had when I had been attacked by the Minotaur.
My entire body began to shiver.
My legs began to give up, and I almost fell to the floor.
“Don’t be afraid, it’s just a goblin,” Noru told me.
He’s right. Fear inhibits your judgment.
I need to calm down.
Everything’s going to work out just fine.
I’m not alone.
I’m right next to me stood the strongest person I knew.
And he’s someone who would never give up.
I’m sure this was intentional.
“We can do this, Rin,” he told me.
His words touched me.
Yes, we really could do this.
Even though I was afraid, even though I was trembling…
We can do this.
“Yes, sensei,” I replied.
It was a strange kind of feeling.
I was so scared that I could barely stand.
I felt dread and despair creep all over my skin.
However, at the same time, I felt extremely courageous.
Two adventurers against a monster beyond the S-Class.
I laughed to myself.
